Hello friends! Hope you all had a great week. This week I will be sharing some of my thoughts and insights about various things. Hope you enjoy it ! 😇
The thing I have noticed recently but had been feeling for past few months has been the difference between entertainment and amusement. I had never been able to define this properly for myself but recently after having thought about it a bit , I think I now have the terminology as well as clarity to express it.
Entertainment is basically anything which makes time fly away without realising so. It energises us and has rejuvenating effect and is good for mental as well as physical health. Whereas amusement is based on short term or instant dopamine hits or happiness and is kind of like junk food for body and mind. For example- having a walk or water or food or maybe connecting to people who matter to us , journaling or other things we enjoy doing that adds value to our life and its effect can be observed over long term is a form of entertainment than mindless scrolling or unintentional binging which comes under amusement . It is better if we set a bit of time aside for it in the day if we like to. That way it would be more intentional . For me , the idea I like is taking breaks for rejuvenation or entertainment than for amusement. This ensures that I feel energised and also likely to get back to doing more of what matters to me. I find that to be more fulfilling , sustainable and enjoyable in the long run. Let me know what are your thoughts on this.

Insight- What is productivity? This insight is often shared by my productivity guru Ali Abdaal. and I pretty much vibe with what he says. Productivity is usually defined as producing more output or getting more done but this makes us set unrealistic expectations from ourselves and get on hamster wheel of doing more and more of things but such approach can hamper our efficiency and is not useful in long run. But the insight I find more sustainable is productivity is just spending time well and doing more of what matters to us. so, rather than spending time on autopilot or sleepwalking through life, we choose to do what we are doing in a particular moment. If I decide to spend my time vibing to songs, It is productive( for me 😄) because that’s what I choose to do and find good for myself. That way I am intentional about what I am doing as well as not unnecessarily beating myself up for being unrealistically productive. This simple insight helps me feel relaxed , in control and have much autonomy over things that I do.

Entertainment vs amusement that was a pretty good topic you picked. I myself feel that they are different things, but didn't know why. Thanks for your brief explanation on it. Also, yes, I am just as sane as you are!😉😁...also the pic you illustrated is really good. 👍
